Woke up and expected an early start. not so... left the hotel at
8:30. Will have to remedy this. Got 1 km down the road and noticed my
front right rack was looking suspicously skew. Stopped in a
neighbouring cafe, and proceeded to take apart the rack, seems one nut
wasn't tightened properly, something i should have checked. Anyway put
in back, secured it with extra reinforcments (duct tape and cable ties)
and after 2 hours continue on my ways. 10km down the road reach
the Great Wall, oh how i love the great wall. stop again at a
neighbouring cafe for some refreshments and a good look at the wall,
when i bump into an Aussie. spend the next 3 hours chatting to
Harry and eating lunch.
After leaving the cafe, experience what the chinese call 'longest
hill ever' (roughly translated). This little brute went on for 15km, a
difficult task when ladden with 30 kg of extra weight on the old bike. Needless to say, by the top had extinguished my supply of water, and
started to profusly sweat blood. Eventually get to the top, dribble
into a near town, and resupply. continued on my way until couldnt turn
the pedals over anymore, bundabashed my way into a field and embarked
on my first forray into camping and tent construction. As it was up,
dove in and passed out. Yassus, i smelt in the morning.
