Arriving on the road today am welcomed by a gale force tail wind.
not knowing what I've done to deserve this, I set off at ludicrous
speeds. Lunch time, stop by at little petrol station and am well looked
after by the resident couple working there. Still on the highway,
and still feeling a little uneasy and naughty as the result of it, a
massive amored police vehicle comes to a halt outside the entrance. In
big letters "Security of China" is written down the side. Doors open
and 2 heavily dressed and armed guards jump down to ground level
complete the with the biggest guns I've ever seen and little gay hats. One points in my direction and they both proceed inside. "Oh God,
they've caught me!" I gasp. the one walks up to me, greets me with a
big "hello" and a laugh then proceeds to the room next door. They pick
a big box, money I presume, before leaving. more giggles and they're on
their way... my bad, slight paranoia there... eventually settle for
doing 150km when I come past small town. Get a dressing down from the
guard at the toll gate, something about "no bicycle on the highway" and
i'm "very bad". do the; im a foreigner and cant speak Chinese trick
and he waves me by, swearing about foreigners all the while...
The town consisted of a street 300m long and the "worst hotel
ever" (won't be going into why). Needless to say wasn't much to see and
do, so had an early one.
